Have You Got What It Takes To Become An Entrepreneur In 2025?

🧑‍💼Becoming an Entrepreneur: Lessons from Mark Bouris & Troy Miller

Too many people wait for the “perfect moment” to start a business. The truth? There’s no perfect moment. Entrepreneurship begins when you stop making excuses & start banking small wins. Here are **6 Powerful Pointers from Mark Bouris that I followed when founding SBMarketer & every new entrepreneur can benefit from these tips:

1️⃣ **Mindset First**

Success is 80% psychology, 20% mechanics. Bouris grew up in Punchbowl, Sydney, with no silver spoon—his mindset was his greatest asset. You have to believe in yourself before anyone else does, & your confidence will grow as you build assets & contribute to starter projects.

2️⃣ **Start with a Side Hustle**

Don’t wait for investors or a big launch. Begin small, test ideas & grind after hours. Bouris himself built his first ventures on the side while working full-time. I went all in on my business after many years working in the field, but most people find it easier to start on the side with less pressure.

3️⃣ **Resilience is Non-Negotiable**

You’ll face setbacks, rejection, & doubt. Bouris stresses resilience—bounce back, learn, pivot & keep moving forward. The daily grind is where your character will be forged, & I have always been a GSD guy (get-stuff-done), but it’s important to be able to step back & pivot if momentum fades.

4️⃣ **Bank Little Wins**

Celebrate progress, not perfection. Each small win builds momentum & confidence. Bouris calls this stacking victories—proof you’re moving forward. I might stack a social post on my branded channels, then on my social group networks with engagement activities & then a heap of outreach DMs to leads.

5️⃣ **Think Big, Act Small**

Dreams should be bold, but execution starts with small practical steps. Break down the mountain into base camps & climb steadily. I started with a business name & logo, then created a website, social media profiles, & a sales proposal. You might start with social media profiles to build identity & content first, then a sales proposal & small website.

6️⃣ **Work Your Arse Off**

There’s no shortcut. Bouris is blunt: energy, drive, & relentless effort separate successful entrepreneurs from the pack. Ask yourself are you ready make sacrifices over the next few years, saying no to many social & family invitations, in order to build your future business? If you're not sure, then start slowly on a side hustle with a mid-term view to transitioning.

Entrepreneurship isn’t about waiting for the right resources—it’s about using what you’ve got, starting where you are, & refusing to quit. But you have to be 110% committed.

Think about your skills, what lights you up, & who to serve?

I had corporate & NFP experience using expensive marketing automation tech like Braze & HubSpot, but I needed a solution that was affordable for a new start-up.

Then I found a website system I call the "Fantastic Four" (WP, Bricks, ACSS, & Frames), & joined it to a global marketing system, called MBS. It's perfect for new entrepreneurs.

Your opportunity is massive! The global solopreneur market is projected to reach $1.5 trillion by 2027, showing how fast independent online businesses are scaling (gitnux)

If you’re ready to start moving forward with consulting, freelancing, or e-commerce—the most common industries for solopreneurs, & start banking little wins, I can help.
